It also means heat, humidity, and pollen put real stress on outdoor equipment that homeowners in drier or colder climates rarely have to think about.

  • IP65: Fully protected against dust and protected against low-pressure water jets from any direction. The appropriate standard for speakers mounted on an open deck or patio with direct rain exposure.

  • IP66 and above: Protected against high-pressure water jets. Generally unnecessary for residential outdoor speaker applications unless installed near a pool deck with regular water exposure.

Under Eaves or Covered Areas When Possible

Wall-mounted, fully weatherproof speakers with an IP65 rating or higher are appropriate for open areas with direct sun and rain exposure. Look specifically for speakers marketed and tested for direct exposure rather than general outdoor use.


Large Yard or Garden Area
